Turkey’s Mediterranean and Aegean coasts enjoy a climate of hot dry summers and mild, rainy winters. The far Southeast of the country experiences very hot summers, with temperatures of over 45C not uncommon, and dry, mild winters. Istanbul and the surrounding region is home to hot summers, averaging around 30C, and mild to cold winters – sometimes even with snow. Nowhere in the country suffers any real extremes, and it’s a general case of hot summers and cool winters – some areas do average below freezing come winter time, especially in mountainous regions.The North of Turkey is prone to very severe earthquakes, as it runs across one of the Earth’s fault lines.
