Land borders can be crossed through Bulgaria, Greece, the CIS and Iran, and there is also a car ferry service from Italy to Turkey. An international driving permit is required if the stay in the country is to be longer than three months, and Green Card International Insurance for both European and Asian Turkey is necessary, along with Turkish third-party insurance, which is available from agencies inside the country. Cars can be brought into Turkey for a maximum of six months per year – anyone wishing to take a vehicle in for longer will have to apply for permission from either the Turkish Touring and Automobile Club or the Ministry of Finance and Customs. On entry to Turkey, an entry/exit form must be filled out signifying details of the car and driver and when the vehicle will be leaving the country.
